Jeffrey Buntin, Jr., President & CEO
The creator of our Brand Fluency capability, Jeffrey’s brand strategy accomplishments have been covered by The Wall Street Journal, Business Week, NPR, Adweek and others. His leadership has helped The Buntin Group grow into one of the top 30 independent U.S. agencies and gain national strategic and creative recognition. In addition to managing the company, Jeffrey serves as lead strategist on all major client initiatives. His advertising career began with the Chicago office of TrueNorth Communications/Bozell Worldwide, working with such national brands as Pork “The Other White Meat,” Miller Brewing/St. Pauli Girl Beer, Weber Grills, Shopko Stores and Popeye’s Chicken. Along the way, Jeffrey was selected as the youngest judge ever in the National ADDY’s, has judged the prestigious Effie competition, earned an ADDY Copywriter of the Year Award, been recognized by the highly coveted Jay Chiat Global Account Planning Awards and received the Silver Medal Award – the highest honor given by the American Advertising Federation. Today, he also serves as Chairman for Junior Achievement of Middle Tennessee, shares a seat on the River States Council Board of Governors of Four A’s and is a founding member of The Davidson Group, supporting ethnic business diversity in Nashville.
Shari Dennis, EVP, Brand Development; Dir Account Management
A 25+ year industry veteran, Shari has worked in all facets of the advertising business, from founding a small agency to leading global, multi-office firms. Over her career, she has worked on a broad array of world-class brands, across virtually every consumer category. Prior to joining The Buntin Group, she served in Executive roles at N.W. Ayer, McCann Erickson and BBDO. She has been involved in strategy and client leadership efforts behind successful campaigns for ATT, Bayer and Capital One, overseeing teams ranging in size from 15 to over 100. Shari’s work has received awards for effectiveness and creativity; including EFFIEs, One Show Pencils, Communications Arts, American Marketing Association AMYs, American Advertising Federation ADDYs, New York Festival AMEs and a Regional EMMY.
Don Scheider, Executive Creative Advisor
Don spent 30+ years at BBDO/New York where he was both Executive Creative Director, as well as on the Board of Directors for the firm. While there, he developed some of the most recognized work ever produced in our industry, helping transform brands such as Pepsi, HBO and GE into household names. His Cindy Crawford spot for Diet Pepsi ranks as the most popular Super Bowl spot of all time, and his “Chimps” work for HBO was the recipient of the first-ever commercial EMMY award. In addition to these creative accomplishments, Don has won virtually every industry creative award, including Gold Lions at Cannes in both the Commercial as well as Film categories. In 2003, Don helped conceive and launch GE’s “Imagination at Work” brand revitalization effort. The campaign’s success has subsequently earned it induction into the Madison Avenue “Walk of Fame.” As part of this effort, Don coined the phrase “ecomagination” to help define GE’s environmental efforts. Don is a former fly-rod artisan, building custom rods by hand. He is likewise an accomplished musician – a passion that spurred him to co-write the Beatles’ “Free as a Bird” video, which earned both a GRAMMY and also multiple Clio Awards.
Kathy Canady, EVP, Chief Insights Officer
As head of research, data and insights for The Buntin Group, Kathy specializes in translating data into meaningful consumer psychology, motivators and strategies that affect all agency thinking. She has oversight responsibilities for research; measurement and analytics; macro trending; target insights and data modeling/application. Beyond her role in shaping the agency’s product, she regularly consults with major client partners and organizations on shifting consumer trends and implications for business success. Kathy joined The Buntin Group in 1984 and held previous positions in Media, Account Management and Research before achieving her current role. She is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Tennessee at Martin with a B.S. in Business Management/Information Systems. Her insights have been instrumental in work recognized by the Jay Chiat Strategic Planning Awards, with a MEDIAWEEK Media Plan of the Year award and in countless creative shows from the local to national level.
Brian Harkness, EVP, Strategic Initiatives
Brian founded and served as the first CEO of Inc., the online subscription agency that was ultimately sold to Anderson News, AOL Time Warner, and Meredith Corporation. Before his entrepreneurial success, Brian spent ten years in the advertising business as Executive Vice President of SBC Advertising in Columbus, Ohio, directing business development and publicity/public relations initiatives for clients including Frigidaire, Sherwin-Williams, McGraw-Hill, Domino’s Pizza, Thompson’s Water Seal and others. Brian started his career as an agency copywriter then moved to Buckeye Financial Corporation where he was Vice President of Marketing for six years. While there, he helped launch the first real-time online ATM network in the U.S. His role within Buntin is overseeing and implementing priority strategic initiatives for existing and prospective/new client relationships.
Tom Gibney, SVP, Director of Content Production
As executive producer and director of content production, Tom has topmost oversight of the agency’s content development across all traditional, digital and emerging/new channels. In this role, Tom and his team regularly interface between client and agency team members, suppliers, content creators and numerous emerging and new media talents. Over the last thirty years, Tom’s career has taken him in many varied directions, from Los Angeles-based freelance production, to Executive Producer for Thom 2 Productions to Owner/Executive Producer of Departure Point Productions. Tom’s clients have included Coca Cola, KFC, Ace Hardware and Kraft Foods, for agencies such as Foote Cone & Belding, Ogilvy & Mather, McCann-Erikson and Bozell Worldwide. He has led film crews for projects all over the United States, in Canada and in Europe. Tom is a past president of the Association of Independent Commercial Producers (AICP), Southeast Chapter. He has also served on the national board and executive committee of the organization.
Ben Thomas, SVP, Channel Engagement Director
Ben oversees channel planning for all agency clients across: media, digital, social, direct, CRM and related touchpoints. Most recently, he was Media Planning Director at 22squared in Atlanta, overseeing engagement plans for Buffalo Wild Wings, Shoe Carnival and Toyota Dealers Association. His previous roles include leadership positions at perennial media shops such as Initiative, Carat, Mindshare and J. Walter Thompson, working on brand and business building initiatives for The Home Depot, American Standard and Church’s Chicken. Ben, at one time in his career, also owned and managed his own media company, serving as the media arm for a number of recognized boutique creative shops across the southeast. He brings a unique combination of classic media and systems training with a strong passion for consumer insights, progressive ideas and channel engagement.
Howard Greiner, President, Buntin Out-of-Home Media
Howard is President and Chief Operating Officer of Buntin Out-of-Home Media, the country's fastest-growing out-of-home media management company.
He brings over 25 years of experience within the outdoor industry including serving as founder and president of U.S. Outdoor Advertising, Inc. where he managed all facets of the business before selling the company to Lamar Advertising.
He began his out-of-home career in 1989 as a Regional Leasing Manager with Whiteco Outdoor Advertising Inc., working with local municipalities on legislative and zoning matters affecting outdoor companies in upstate New York. His success carried him on a rapid rise through the company eventually landing the position of Vice President of National Sales. Throughout, he serviced many national agencies and advertisers including J. Walter Thompson, The Buntin Group, Ford, Cracker Barrel Old Country Stores, Inc., Shoney's and Outdoor Services.
Howard is widely respected among his peers and serves as a member of the Outdoor Advertising Association of America’s (OAAA) Marketing Committee and as a Board Member for the Traffic Audit Bureau (TAB).
