Discretionary Comments:
Starmark International is comprised of 55 full-time employees. The majority of our employees are headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Dan Estes, Chairman
A skilled entrepreneur, Dan is the architect of three of the fastest growing, privately held companies in the United States over the past 25 years – Starmark, GFX International and Starmark International. Soon after its founding in 1978, Dan’s first company, Starmark, Inc., became the first company ever named to Inc. Magazine’s List of the 500 Fastest Growing Privately Held Companies for five years in a row. Starmark, Inc. expanded to include offices in Denver and Milwaukee, a publishing company, a printing company and a regional photo studio. Dan sold Starmark in 1994, but continued to sit at the helm, leading the management team to acquire GFX International. As Chairman, he built GFX into one of the leading point-of-purchase graphics companies serving fast-food marketers and major retailers nationwide. In 1995, GFX was also named to Inc. Magazine’s 500 list.
After relocating to the South Florida boating and fishing lifestyle in 1996 – and learning that “early retirement is very overrated” – Dan founded Starmark International in Fort Lauderdale 1998. Dan’s goal is to bring top talent from around the globe to offer a level of branding, advertising, public relations and interactive services not previously found in South Florida. Dan is a hands-on business leader, corporate marketer and branding consultant who continually produces bottom line results for Starmark’s growing list of clients. Even in the wake of the dot-com bust, Starmark International experienced 1,400% growth between 1999 and 2004.
Dan holds both a Bachelor of Arts degree from Indiana University and a Master of Arts degree from Purdue University.
Peggy Nordeen, CEO
A graduate of the University of Iowa, School of Communications, Peggy co-founded Starmark, “a full service advertising agency,” in Chicago in 1978. By the early ‘90s, Starmark grew from a two-person agency to one of the largest independent advertising agencies in the Midwest with over 140 employees serving B2B clients – both entrepreneurs and Fortune 1000 companies, including Nuveen, Honeywell, Square D, Computer Associates, Ball Aerospace, Waste Management Corporation, Siemens-Nixdorf, Storage Technologies and many more.
Responding to an offer made by another Chicago agency through the American Association of Advertising Agencies, she and her partner sold the client contracts of Starmark in 1994, and after supervising the transition of the business and employees to the new agency, she relocated to South Florida.
After a short sabbatical, Peggy and her founding partner from Starmark/Chicago reopened Starmark in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in early 1998. In the spring of 1998, Starmark acquired, an Interactive database and Web design firm to secure the Fort Lauderdale agency’s Interactive services base.
Peggy currently serves on the Board for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County, is an Executive Committee member of the Broward Alliance, and an Advisory Board member of A Child Is Missing.
