Steve Bernstein, President
To meet Steve is to know why his infectious energy and enthusiasm as company president have been key to continuing Bernstein-Rein’s place as one of the top 10 independent advertising agencies in the country. More than anything, Steve sees his job as guaranteeing quality from the top. He ensures that the agency of over 300 associates and the integrated disciplines which they represent fulfills the commitments made to the agency’s clients. Seeing those clients move forward is something in which he takes great pride.


Advertising and marketing are in Steve’s blood. As a child, he inspired his father to imagine and invent the McDonald’s Happy Meal. After nearly two decades in the business, he has gained the necessary skills and respect to focus an accomplished team of marketing professionals into a potent national marketing partner — one that
drives measurable success and builds strong brands. Steve’s experience and dedication, along with true heart and a zest for life, make him the right leader for Bernstein-Rein.
Arlo Oviatt, SVP/Executive Creative Director
Arlo leads our creative team with the eyes, ears and mind of a master craftsman. He shares his wisdom and vision with the heart of a teacher and mentor. He comes complete with major creative development and strategic experience encompassing global brands like Budweiser, Hallmark, McDonald’s, Skittles, Whiskas and Tropicana. Arlo is first and foremost a creative leader, but he intricately understands the business side of the equation. He knows how to connect brands to people emotionally and rationally, but more important, he is obsessed with driving results.
Anthony Magliano, Interactive Creative Director
Anthony brings over 10 years of graphic design and interactive experience to Bernstein-Rein’s interactive design team. A musician and creative visionary, he has the unique ability to combine distinctive design flair and technical functionality – resulting in beautiful, cohesive brand expressions. Anthony leads a team that creates award-winning motion graphics, interactive and dynamic websites, interactive branding, e-mail and online advertising, intranet/extranet solutions, and interactive viral tactics. His
clients include: Dell Computers, Elbow Chocolates, Epic Wakeboats, Hostess, H&R Block, Kasil Denim, McDonald's and Ubisoft.
Dave Lubeck, EVP/Executive Director of Client Services
Dave is responsible for leading the clients and brands the agency serves. He epitomizes the terms “business partner” and “brand steward.” He makes sure that his entire staff acts and feels the same way. Dave believes the only way to excel in business is to have passion. He’s contagious that way and has developed a habit of bringing out the best in everyone around him
Kelli Anstine, SVP/Director of Experience Planning
Kelli has been with the agency for more than 14 years and now heads up our media strategy and experience planning department. She is forever exploring new consumer touch points in the worlds of new media and new technology, as well as always looking for new ways to use traditional media to create new experiences for the customer. Kelli is a 10-year veteran of overseeing all of Wal-Mart’s integrated media programs, and in that time she has experienced enough changes in the media landscape to know how important it is to stay on top of what’s next. She has also worked on accounts such as Ruby Tuesday, USAA, Russell Stover Candies, Bayer Animal Health and the Missouri Lottery.
Jay Huckabay, VP/Database Marketing
Jay brings more than 20 years of database marketing experience to the Bernstein-Rein team. He knows how to uncover business-building opportunities by finding the sweet spot with the target – through database strategy, database building, segmentation and analytical modeling. Jay has built database programs for clients that include American Express, Anheuser-Busch, BLOCKBUSTER, OfficeMax, Thrifty Car Rental, American Airlines, Harrah’s Casino and Hallmark Loyalty. When Jay isn’t digging into some data, he reaches for the sky, where he enjoys his weekends as a private pilot.
Steve Wood, VP/Account Planner
Steve has been in the business of marketing for more than 25 years; at Bernstein-Rein, he has provided creative leadership throughout his tenure. Recently, Steve embarked upon a new journey at Bernstein-Rein, moving from Group Creative Director to Account Planner. In his new role, Steve is responsible for uncovering and injecting consumer insight into the creative process. He is a master in humanizing the message so that communications resonate with target audiences and are relevant to their needs. Steve ensures that the brand is brought to life creatively in a significant and meaningful way. Steve’s experience includes BLOCKBUSTER, McDonald’s, Russell Stover, Wal-Mart, USAA, Thrifty Car Rental, Capital One, American Century, T. Rowe Price, Thornburg Mortgage, Janus and Commerce Bancshares.
Clarke Smith, VP/Group Account Director - Direct
Clarke has two decades of integrated and direct marketing experience on both the client and agency sides of the business. While at Western Auto in the early ‘90s he oversaw the launch of the company’s first customer database and initial direct marketing efforts and, in the process, got hooked on direct marketing. Since then he has worked with a wide range of clients, including Kmart, Nestle, ToyRUs and Equal Sweetener to improve the performance and ROI of their direct marketing programs. In 2001 Clarke returned to the client side, leading the marketing for a division of Hallmark Cards and helping launch Hallmark Business Expressions, recordable sound cards and Hallmark (RED). Clarke recently joined Bernstein-Rein to lead the agency's direct marketing efforts, including work for Clayton Homes, T. Rowe Price and Time Warner Cable.
